Morristown Lady Colonials

Coaches Registration

Welcome

Welcome to the Coaches Registration with Morristown Lady Colonials!

Please read through each page carefully to ensure that all information is provided accurately.

As with prior years, every coach in our program must be registered on our website and have a valid USA Lacrosse membership.  For any new (and returning) coaches, this USA lacrosse membership must be renewed annually, (costs $60 - which we can reimburse you for upon request). If your membership expires mid-season, you can renew it *now* so it is good for the entire season (through June 2).  USA Lacrosse requires EVERY coach in our program to have their membership active (with a background check and abuse prevention and other items below completed) for our program to be fully covered from an insurance perspective.  All requirements must be met to coach. I realize this may take some time to complete for our first-time coaches so thank you in advance for completing these items!

Effective Jan. 1, USA Lacrosse has rolled out a new tiering certification system which is now color-coded (Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum) vs. the old system which was Level 1/2/3.  All current level 1/2/3 coaches will be automatically transferred to the corresponding Silver, Gold and Platinum levels as follows:

Current level 1 is now Silver (Foundational Level)

Current Level 2 is now Gold (Intermediate Level)

Current Level 3 is now Platinum (Advanced Level)

All COACH members (included with Coach Membership) start as Bronze Level (Entry level coach certification included with USA Lacrosse Membership). No cost involved for this certification other than the annual USA lacrosse fee (Lady Colonials will reimburse for the cost of this and any other certification pursued).  USA Lacrosse charges $35 for additional Silver/Gold/Platinum certifications.

Requirements for All coaches/Bronze level:

  • Abuse Prevention (this requirement once completed is good for 2 years)
  • Background Check through NCSI (this requirement once completed is good for 2 years). If your background check expires in the middle of the season, you can refresh this up to 30 days before the expiration date.  This online update (through USA Lacrosse via NCIS) can take up to five business days to process.
  • Cardiac, Concussion and Cultural Competency Course in addition to a brief rules test

You can log into your USA Lacrosse account (going under My Account at the top) to view your profile which shows the expiration date on your account, background check expiration date, and abuse prevention expiration date as well as your certification level.  If the dates reflect an expiration date after the end of the season (June 2, 2024), you are all set. If something needs to be refreshed you can hit the red buttons shown under your profile for background check and abuse prevention.

Lady Colonial Lacrosse Club Inc. Rules of Conduct and Disciplinary Action

For those involved in the Lady Colonials program as a parent, coach, or player, a code of conduct will be outlined. The Lady Colonials will encourage good sportsmanship and fair play. Each Lady Colonials coach will be totally responsible for the conduct of himself, his players and his respective spectators. Absolutely no abusive or vulgar language will be tolerated and could result in team penalties. Unsportsmanlike conduct or disrespect for the referees will not be tolerated as well. Both players and coaches will refrain at all times, from abusive and unwarranted disruptions.

At all times, players, coaches and parents must positively represent the club whether at a club-sponsored event or not.  As an individual, your actions could have negative repercussions for the club.  This conduct also applies away from the field in the community at large, especially while wearing Lady Colonial apparel.  If conduct deemed detrimental to the club is observed, the club and its board will levy sanctions depending on its severity.

Conduct of Respect:

It is essential that players show respect to their coaches and that league officials show decency and consideration for their players.

Parent Conduct:

It is imperative that parents, at all times, properly conduct themselves. Swearing, harassment or unwarranted physical contact will not be permitted or tolerated. In the event conduct is not acceptable, the Board of Directors may take disciplinary action which may include suspension from the program. No coach or spectator shall at any time use signs, gestures, degrading personal comments, or any act, which will reflect unfavorably upon opposing coaches, players or spectators. The Lady Colonials encourages and requires good sportsmanship and respect from all its participants. The Lady Colonials will enforce this policy to the maximum.

GOOD SPORTSMANSHIP/ CODES OF CONDUCT

 Coaches’ code:

  • Enthusiastically supports and practices "Everyone plays" and extends positive coaching philosophies of the Lady Colonials
  • Be reasonable in your demands on the young player's time, energy, enthusiasm and performance on the field
  • Impress your players that they must abide by the rules of the game at all times
  • Develop team respect for the ability of opponents and for the judgment of referees and opposing coaches
  • Ensure that your players' experience is one of fun and enjoyment (winning is only part of it). Players should never be yelled at or ridiculed for making mistakes or losing a game.
  • Set a good example and be generous with your praise when it is deserved. Children need a coach that they can respect.
  • Keep informed about sound principles of coaching, growth and development principles relating to children.
  • Enlist the support of your team's parents in your efforts to develop the proper attitudes and values in the players.

Parent’s Code:

  • Do not force an unwilling child to participate in sports.
  • Remember that children are involved in organized sports for their enjoyment, not yours.
  • Teach your child that hard work and an honest effort are often more important than a victory.
  • Help your child work toward skill improvement and good sportsmanship in every game. Your child will then be a winner, even in defeat.
  • Do not ridicule your child for making a mistake or losing a game.
  • Set a good example. Children learn best by good examples.
  • Applaud good plays by your team and by members of the opposing team.
  • Do not publicly question referee's judgment.
  • Recognize the value and importance of volunteer coaches, referees, and officials and give them their due respect. Without them, there would not be the Lady Colonials.
  • Support all efforts to remove verbal and physical abuse from youth sporting activities.

Player's Code:

  • Play for the fun of it, not just to please your parents or coach.
  • Play by the rules.
  • Never argue with or complain about the referee calls or decisions.
  • Control your temper and most of all; resist the temptation to retaliate when you feel you have been wronged.
  • Concentrate on playing lacrosse and on affecting the outcome of the game with your best effort.
  • Be a good sport by cheering on all good plays, whether it is your team's or your opponent's.
  • Remember that the goals of the game are to have fun, improve skills and feel good. Don't be a "showoff".
  • Cooperate with your coaches, teammates, opponents and referees.
